Hydrotesting/ Visual Eddy

Hydrostatic test is a way in which pressure vessels like gas cylinders, plumbing, boilers and etc. can be tested for strength and leaks. The test involves filling the vessel or pipe system with a liquidis dyed to aid in visual leak detection, and pressurization of the vessel to the specified test pressure. Pressure tightness can be tested by shutting off the supply valve and observing whether there is a pressure loss. Strength is usually tested by measuring permanent deformation of the container.

Along with hydrostatic testing, we also offer Visual Eddy Testing.

Pressurized cylinders experience load cracking. This is when small radial cracks start at the base of the threaded neck area and propagate toward the shoulder (the cylinder body) and up in to the neck (threaded area) as the cracks grow deeper. Eventually, these cracks can become quite deep and can lead to tank rupture.

Eddy current techniques can detect these cracks in the initial stages of formation long before there is any real hazard.

Our Process

Haight Fire and Safety offers high pressure hydrostatic and visual eddy testing up to 10,000 psi and low pressure hydrostatic testing.  We are capable of testing Co2 cylinders, SCBA, SCUBA, Oxygen cylinders as well as HPA (High Pressure Air) tanks like paintball tanks.
